CESE collects, stores and manages a large amount of education information, including data from non-government service providers such as preschools and Registered Training Organisations.
As part of a public sector agency—the Department of Education and Communities—CESE complies with NSW privacy laws, including the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002. These laws provide people with confidence that their information is being handled carefully all the way from collection, to storage, use and disclosure.
CESE takes its privacy responsibilities seriously and has put in place a number of data governance measures to maintain confidentiality and security. For instance, access to the Business Intelligence (BI) system is only provided for a restricted number of DEC employees. All BI users receive privacy training, and can only access information necessary for their work.
